Tree of Shields is a Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) club, based in the heart of Yorkshire. The group started life in 2016 as a sparring group, run by brothers Sam and Tom Ive, but has quickly grown into much, much more.
We are a heavily community-led club, covering a diverse range of historical combat practices. We pride ourselves on championing our members, and giving everyone the opportunity to share their experience and knowledge.
At Tree of Shields we focus on learning through sparring, working closely with other clubs, and focused seminars. We also organise club trips to events up and down the county, giving our members a chance to cross swords with some of the best the UK and Europe has to offer, and hopefully bringing home some medals.
Everyone is welcome at Shields. Our family is diverse, and we pride ourselves on being inclusive and friendly. Come along and enjoy sword combat, exercise, learning, and tea and cake. Whether you’re a beginner or a skilled swordsperson, the wealth of experience in the room will be sure to help you reach your goals.
We run sessions every Monday night 7.30 – 10.00pm. Sessions are varied, and we offer our members sparring, seminars, mini-tournaments and social events on a monthly basis. You can keep up to date by following our Facebook page.
We hope to see you soon.
